Styling your Threads bio (and why it carries to Instagram)

Threads pulls your profile straight from Instagram, so the 150-character bio limit is the same number you already know from IG. Paste a styled bio here and it shows up identically on both apps, because Threads and Instagram are reading the same Unicode text from one shared Meta profile. That is the practical win: do the work once in the box above, tap copy, open Threads, hit Edit profile, drop it into the Bio field, and your Instagram bio updates in lockstep. There is no separate Threads-only bio to maintain.

Count carefully, though. Fancy letters take exactly one character each the way plain letters do, so a 30-letter tagline in a script style still spends 30 of your 150. The counter above the input mirrors the Threads field, so watch it before you copy. Spacing tricks like the fullwidth style add an invisible-looking wide space between words that quietly burns characters too.

Which styles survive, and where they break

Threads renders the standard mathematical alphanumeric ranges cleanly on iOS, Android, and web, so the workhorse families are safe almost everywhere. The decorative extras are where you should be cautious. Use these notes as a quick guide:

• Reliable in bio and posts: bold, italic, sans-serif, monospace, and small caps. These hold up across devices and never collapse into empty boxes.
• Mostly fine, test first: cursive script, bold script, and double-struck look great on modern phones but can render thin on older Android builds.
• Risky: squared, bubble, and gothic fraktur sometimes show as tofu boxes for people on outdated systems. Flip on Safe Mode in the options to hide anything that won't render universally.
• Skip in your handle: the @username inherits Instagram's rules and rejects fancy characters. Style the display name and bio, not the handle.

Posts and replies behave a little differently from the profile. Styled text pastes fine into the composer and into replies, but Threads' search and topic tags index plain letters, so a fully stylized post is harder to surface and a styled hashtag simply won't link. Keep keywords and tags in normal text, and save the fancy fonts for emphasis, a signature line, or your bio. One honest caveat: heavily decorated text can read as spammy to some users and screen readers announce it character by character, so a short accent beats an entirely transformed sentence.
